The ILMC in China (未完)

The ILMC in China: a preview by Remy Brouard (2010/7/23)

The opener of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) will be competed at Silverstone next September, followed by the Petit Le Mans and a brand new event: the Zhuhai 1000kms. Remy Brouard, the CEO of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), talks about this Chinese first.

Why go to China?
Remy Brouard: China is the first car market in the world. Racing in China is like launching a fashion premiere in Paris. For example, Audi sold 100,000 cars there in the first half of 2010! The ACO also intends to go to countries where the other series don't. Apart from Formula One, there are not so many series organising events in China.

How will the European contenders reach China?
We will support the private teams. About twenty cars will be sent by ship from Europe, and others from Japan. For 2011 we are working on transport partnerships to reduce costs.

Are there local entries?
Yes, there will be teams from the Asian Festival of Speed. Many GT3 cars compete in Asian series, and they will be welcome in a category called GTC. Some teams from Europe also intend to compete with GT3 cars.

What was your feeling when you first met the circuit's Board?
I felt a real enthusiasm for this event. I also had the opportunity to meet some government representatives in charge of tourism and sports, and I immediately realised that everything would be done for this international race to be a real success.
