Title : Inaugural calendar for the 1st World Cup of Motorsport confirmed by A1GP

A1 Grand Prix's course around the globe has now been set with the confirmation of the first season's racing calendar. Visiting some of the world's most exciting countries, the inaugural World Cup of Motorsport will host 24 adrenaline-fuelled races over 12 weekends.
Teams from every corner of the globe will compete on a level playing field across world-famous circuits and newly upgraded facilities. Bringing a new dimension to international motorsport, A1 Grand Prix will take motorsport to previously untapped markets.
Announcing the 2005/06 season calendar, A1 Grand Prix Founder, President and Chairman Sheikh Maktoum said: "I am delighted to confirm the race calendar for the first-ever World Cup of Motorsport. We have spoken to A1 Teams, national governments and most importantly our fans to produce a schedule that promises to deliver exciting, high-speed racing across every habitable continent. A1 Grand Prix is about making motorsport accessible, with affordable tickets to popular locations. To have up to 25 A1 race cars, each proudly presenting their national sponsors, competing at circuits in both developed and developing markets, will be a remarkable spectacle for both new and traditional race fans."
Following the summer sun around the globe, A1 Grand Prix will deliver 12 weekends of exciting racing action outside of the traditional motorsport season, kicking-off at Brands Hatch, Great Britain on 25 September 2005.
Pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time in motorsport history, A1 Grand Prix will bring together 25 national teams, representing 80 per cent of the world's population to actively compete on a level playing field.

Title : Jos Verstappen unveils Netherlands' entry to the World Cup of Motorsport

The striking orange A1 car that will represent the Netherlands in the first World Cup of Motorsport was officially unveiled at the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk this evening to a crowd of press and public.
A1 Team Netherlands seat holder, Jan Lammers started the proceedings saying: "For us, A1GP is the icing on the cake of the work by Racing for Holland over the past years. All our guys have worked like lions, and to be able to defend our country in this wonderful new series is a big honour. That's how we all look at it. Simply the intention to be fast is not enough, it is simply our duty."
A1 Team Netherlands' main driver and ex-F1 star, Jos Verstappen said: "I'm very excited about this new series, the races will be very close and I can go to the absolute maximum. There are a lot of very good drivers, racing for good teams. A1 Team Netherlands has become very competitive very quickly, especially at our last test session at Paul Ricard where we finished third. Our motto will be to give everything till the very last lap of the final race! For me, it is an enormous challenge and I hope that a lot of Dutch fans will support me on 25 September at Brands Hatch."
Jeroen Bleekemolen, A1 Team Netherlands' reserve driver went on to say: "For me it is of course an excellent opportunity to get some experience with single seaters after my years with Opel in the DTM. There I learned a lot and had to push myself against team mates like Heinz Harald Frentzen. Now this has repaid itself and the fact that I can be the reserve driver at the level of A1GP is a very big break. Jos, of course, is the ideal example, assisting me in a great way during the tests. I hope that I can help him collect data for the Team."
With the stage set for A1 Team Netherlands to actively compete on the level playing field of motorsport which is A1 Grand Prix, the Series took the opportunity to confirm RTL as the host broadcast for the Netherlands. RTL will show A1GP live across the country. Director, Jaap Hofman said: "I find this series very interesting. It is obvious that it is all about the driver and his ability. That is why I am very happy that Jos and Jeroen are on the Team. I am sure Jos will show what he is capable of."
Concluding the ceremony, A1 Grand Prix Founder, President and Chairman, Sheikh Maktoum presented Dutch Olympic medallist and current Chairman of the Dutch Olympic Committee, Erica Terpstra with a scale model of the A1 Team Netherlands car.
Sheikh Maktoum commented: "Wherever you are in the world, the colour orange is clearly recognisable as that of the Dutch sporting team so I am delighted to have such a bold car on the grid for the first World Cup of Motorsport. To me, it is an honour to have both Jan Lammers and Jos Verstappen involved in A1 Grand Prix. Jos has the largest fan base of any current racing driver and was responsible for making motorsport so hugely popular in the Netherlands. With Jos driving for A1 Team Netherlands, I am sure we will see a wave of orange as his supporters follow him to Brands Hatch, EuroSpeedway on 9 October, Estoril and beyond."

Title : Czech Republic sign up to A1GP

With the inaugural race of the World Cup of Motorsport approaching fast, the Czech Republic has signed up to join the A1 Grand Prix series confirming their national drivers at the same time.
The Seat Holder for A1 Team Czech Republic, motorsport driver and manager, Antonin Charouz, confirmed Tomas Enge, Jarek Janis and Jan Charouz as the three names that will represent their country in the first World Cup of Motorsport.
Antonin Charouz said: "It is fantastic for Czech motorsport that we have been able to get into this Series. It was not easy to get into this elite company and our good reputation built in various motorsport series including Formula One helped immensely. We are now negotiating with Czech TV stations to arrange live television coverage of the race and it is obviously a great opportunity for Czech companies to advertise around the world."
Main driver for A1 Team Czech Republic, Tomas Enge commented: "I think that the timing of the World Cup of Motorsport is excellent. Many drivers can take part thanks to the timing and the competition will be very strong. It will be interesting to see the fight between hungry youngsters and experienced drivers. New tracks represent a new challenge I always like to compete in an unknown territory. I believe that my experience will help me in the fight at the front."
Jarek Janis said: "It is definitely good for drivers that they will be racing for the whole winter and they will be able to keep rhythm. It should be a very close Series and the program of the races weekends will be very attractive for the fans."
Jan Charouz said: "I am really looking forward to A1 Grand Prix because there will be good drivers and the Series will have very colourful grid and schedule. I have heard from other drivers who have tested the car that the behaviour is similar to F3000 but the car is more powerful and I am really curious to learn how the PowerBoost will work."
Commenting on A1 Team Czech Republic's involvement in the World Cup of Motorsport, A1 Grand Prix Founder, President and Chairman, Sheikh Maktoum said: "The is home to one of motorsport's classic tracks, the Brno circuit which has given the country a rich motorsport heritage. With A1 Grand Prix, I am sure that the Czech Republic will have a sound future in developing new national drivers to compete in the World Cup of Motorsport."
