Title : A1 Team Lebanon to be focus of attention

 Made famous by Khalil Beschir's spectacular exit from the feature race at Brands Hatch and then by Basil Shabaan leading briefly in the feature race at Eastern Creek, A1 Team Lebanon is the one that the majority of people will be watching from the grandstands at the Dubai Autodrome this Sunday, 11 December.

 Fired up by a couple of days of exploratory testing at the Dubai Autodrome over the weekend - something that only the bottom 4 teams are permitted to do - A1 Team Lebanon drivers Khalil Beschir are now extremely excited about this weekend’s A1 Grand Prix of Nations in Dubai, the race that is seen by the team as their home race.
 "A lot of people will be coming from the Lebanon to Dubai for the race," says Khalil Beschir. "Actually, as many as 60 people are making the trip from my village which has a population of only around 2000. I know that there are package tours to take people to Dubai for the race so we should have a good presence in the crowd. However, we're really representing the whole Arab world and may even put the flags of all Arab nations on our car to give them something to cheer."
 Basil Shabaan takes up the theme: "In the winter months, the Lebanese head to Dubai for their holidays and the reverse is true in the summer. We should have plenty of fans in town and A1 Grand Prix has been a massive help to us as before it came about, people in the Middle East knew little about car racing. In fact, I literally had to shove my publicity down their throats to get them to understand what I was trying to achieve with my racing career. In fact, had it not been for A1GP, I might not have raced in 2005 at all, so it's been great for me."
 As to which of this duo will get to race in front of their fans, that remains to be decided and the decision will be made after both have run in the test sessions on Friday.

Title : India and Pakistan look to Dubai as Home Race

 Sporting rivals India and Pakistan will both be treating the A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Dubai as their home event and are doing everything possible to drum up support from their own.
 A1 Team India's team principal Akbar Ebrahim is excited by the prospect of a large Indian contingent in the crowd: "There are a lot of Indians in the Gulf States and I know that our seat holders have a big promotional plan to drum up support for the races in Dubai."
 Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who is one of A1 Team India's two seat holders, will be present and his moves as well as the team's will be covered by a 45-strong party of Indian media who will be attending the event in Dubai.
 Likewise, A1 Team Pakistan is calling out to Pakistani nationals to come out to support the team, which is something that driver Adam Khan appreciates: "It's fantastic when I'm on the grid and look around and see Pakistani flags in the crowd." A1 Team Pakistan chairman Arif Husain continues: "With there being no race in Pakistan, the Dubai event is the closest to home and with many Pakistani nationals living in and around Dubai in the UAE, we hope to see lots of flags and shirts among the crowds. It's a real boost to us at the team to see the fans at the races. We're competing against the rest of the world and it gives us a great sense of national pride.  There are many reasons for countries becoming involved in A1 Grand Prix, but the most compelling is the desire to see one's country beating others in a straight battle on the international sporting stage. This is why A1 Team Lebanon was created, but the outcome could have been different as Team Principal Tony Snook explains.
 "I'd been working with the Auchi family for a couple of years when I went with Tameem to assess the Formula 1 scene for investment possibilities in the spring of 2004," explains Tony. "We looked at 3 teams, each at a different level within the sport - McLaren, BAR and Jordan - then retired to consider firstly the expense of any such involvement, the issue of tobacco sponsorship and finally the technical changes in the pipeline. We decided to take a step back and it was at this point that Tameem met the Sheikh (Maktoum) and heard about his plans for A1 Grand Prix. It sounded excellent so in August 2004 I started to do my research as a precursor to possible involvement."
 "I checked out 8 teams who might run the car for us, 5 fitness experts, 4 lawyers and 9 media companies. We then conducted 2-day tests with 4 teams, 2 of which were from Formula 3000 and 2 from Formula 3, assessing them for the twofold job of training the drivers and then running through the 2005 season with a view to preparing them for the start of the A1 Grand Prix season. At the end of this, we chose Carlin Motorsport.
 "Then we had to make our choice of drivers, something in which there are very few from the Lebanon. We narrowed our driver choice from 3 to 2 in December 2004, picking Khalil Beschir and Basil Shabaan and then had them out in cars by March 2005, starting with a limited programme in Italian Formula 3 before they stepped up to Italian Formula 3000. This grounding was important as the aim of A1 Team Lebanon in the inaugural A1GP series is to punch above our weight.
 "We don't want to be seen as also-rans, but Lebanese fans know that this is a hard task and our performances have been well received which is good as we want to get them behind us to support this national entity.
