Title : A1 Team Netherlands car flies high

Following on from former Formula 1 racer Jos Verstappens aerial exit from the A1 Grand Prix of Nations Estoril after riding over the rear of the A1 Team Germany entry, the A1 Team Netherlands was flown back to England for repairs at Lola. The bright orange-liveried car was flown out of Lisbon on Monday evening and delivered to Lolas Huntingdon base on Tuesday for repairs to its tub. It will be collected this Saturday and put onto a plane on Sunday to fly from London to Sydney in time to be delivered on Tuesday ahead of next weekends race at the Eastern Creek circuit.
Should A1 Team Netherlands or any other teams suffer damage at Eastern Creek, the logistics of returning their cars from Australia to Lola and then flying them back east again to Malaysia in time for the following round at Sepang on 18-20 November will be altogether more fraught...

Title : Eurosport gets in on French success

The hugely impressive form of A1 Team France - four wins and a second place from six starts - has excited Eurosport so much that it has signed a deal to broadcast all of the rounds live. This deal covers France and the French-speaking part of Switzerland, enabling fans of all branches of motorsport to tune in and chart the progress of the team and its drivers Alexandre Premat and Nicolas Lapierre.
A1GP television supremo Richard Dorfmann has also had a very successful visit to Sportel at Monaco following the A1 Grand Prix of Nations Estoril and announcements of further television deals for countries all around the globe are expected within the next week as A1 Grand Prix continues to spread its wings.

Title : A1 Team Japan is back on track

A1 Team Japan is set to bounce back after missing last weekend's A1 Grand Prix of Nations Estoril following a late announcement that neither of its drivers, Ryo Fukuda or Hideki Noda, would be attending the event due to clashing commitments in World Series by Renault and Formula Nippon respectively. Sportscar race winner Hayanari Shimoda is expected to be behind the wheel of the white car adorned by a red rising sun for the A1 Grand Prix of Nations Eastern Creek on 4-6 November.
"Had the drivers' management told us before the Tuesday", says team principal Trevor Carlin, "we would probably have been able to get Shimoda into the car. As it was, he'd just raced in the American Le Mans Series race Laguna Seca, which he won, but there was no way to get him sorted in time, or two turn the mechanics around as they'd already headed to Portugal."

Title : Fosters joins the Party

One of the most significant novelties at A1 Grand Prix of Nations Estoril was the signwriting of the A1 Team Australia car, as Australian brewer Fosters had joined the show. This is more of a coup that you might expect, as Fosters has famously backed events rather than teams or individuals in the past. The nation-versus-nation concept of A1 Grand Prix has forced them to reappraise their approach and other sponsors may well see this as a signal to become involved. Certainly, the fact that future A1 Grand Prix rounds are to be held in south-east Asia - in Malaysia, Indonesia and China - is of great attarction to Fosters, as these are all areas into which it's looking to expand.
A1 Team Australia seatholder Alan Jones sees the deal as a landmark: "Fosters came on board as they see their invovlement as an association with a country rather than just with a team. It's all about waving the flag."

Title : Tracy for Ireland

Previous stories that Champ Car star Paul Tracy may contest a round or two later in the A1 Grand Prix Series for A1 Team Canada may yet prove wide of the mark according to A1 Team Ireland. Team Principal Mark Gallagher reckons that there could yet be some hope of him racing in the green of Team Ireland, as Paul's father Tony was born in Dublin... This was said with a little twinkle in the eye, but both teams might consider Tracy an option for the races in Monterrey, Mexico and Laguna Seca, USA as Tracy has contested Champ Car races at both.
